The senior adviser to the president becomes ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary

Decree no. 100/59 of 27 March student willy nyamitwe to the rank of ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the republic of Burundi. The decree was signed on the proposal of burundian minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, a brother of the beneficiary.

While he was in charge of the communication to the presidency, willy nyamitwe has shown himself to be more active than the ambassadors on the diplomatic level in several files. It is considered to be the right arm of the President Pierre Nkurunziza for which he has defended tooth and nail the mandate contested 2015.

Willy nyamitwe has narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on 28 November 2016. His Brother Minister of external relations had written on his twitter that it was “a vain attempt to destabilize the Republican institutions”.
