    The chairman of the National Commission of lands and other properties (Cntb), m. Martin Mbazumutima , said Tuesday during a press conference, that despite the difficult economic conditions and the disengagement of unhcr, this commission has closed 585 cases during the past two years.
    Among these files, 228 were closed in 2015, namely 174 cases dealt with by the delegations provincial and 54 folders in resort analysed and deliberate by the commission in plenary. During the same year, the provincial delegations have registered 179 new complaints.
    Some 273 cases were closed in 2016 by the provincial delegations, while 84 cases were closed by the sub-Committee on appeal. 213 files have been executed by the provincial delegations, at a time when 120 new complaints were received at the level of provincial delegations and 120 others at the level of the sub-Committee on appeal.
    Mr. Mbazumutima pointed out that the commission has bread on the board since more than 12000 cases are awaiting treatment in the delegations provincial and 2300 cases should be treated by the sub-Committee of appeal before being analysed by the commission in The Plenary sessions.
    He asked the government and other actors involved in the field of the rights of the human person and social justice to increase their support to the cntb in the resolution of conflicts related to the socio-political crises in the history of Burundi.
    Apart from their activities, the classic cntb, in collaboration with the ngo Moses Isserles Ministries children, worked during the year 2016 on the promotion and defense of the rights of women and children repatriated by facilitating the recording of the facts and acts of civil status , according to the president of the cntb.
    The President of the cntb indicated that the beginning of the year 2016 coincided with changes in members of the commission and that 50 % was made up of new elements that were first trained to soak up the Mission and the maintenance of the cntb.
    He welcomed the change of mindset observed in the population because, did he explained, a large part of the population starts to understand that it’s not good to fight for a property that belongs to others. He asked to the media to help them in raising awareness about the mission entrusted to the commission for the consolidation of peace, the improvement of the security and development.
